A protest rally was held in Kolkata today, led by Left parties, highlighting growing concerns over attacks on Bengali-speaking labourers across BJP-ruled states. The rally began from the Lenin statue courtyard in Dharmatala and concluded at Ramlila Park, drawing significant participation from Left activists and supporters.
The demonstrators accused BJP and RSS-backed groups of inciting violence against Bengali-speaking working-class individuals, labelling them as "illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators" without evidence. Protesters alleged that many such workers are being sent to detention camps under the pretext of security operations.
Particular criticism was directed at the Assam Chief Minister, who the rallyists claim has repeatedly made hateful and inflammatory remarks, increasing social hostility toward Bengali-speaking communities.
The rally also condemned what they described as anti-labour policies of the Centre and BJP-led state governments. Protesters demanded an end to the hate campaign and protection for workers’ rights, regardless of linguistic or regional identity.
